1. Our Philosophy
Catalyst is built on a simple loop: Practice → Analyze → Improve. To make this loop work, we need data. This policy explains exactly what data we collect and how we use it to generate the insights that improve your score.
We believe in transparency. We only collect what is necessary to power your preparation and improvement.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Personal Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Identity: Name and email address (via Google Auth or direct signup)
- Payment Data: Transaction ID and date (processed securely by Razorpay; we do not store card details)
- How you found us: The first page of ours you opened, the website that sent you there (its domain only) and any campaign tags in the link. Your browser keeps this in local storage, with no cookie, and we save it to your account once, when you sign up.
2.2 Performance Data (The "Signal")
To generate your analytics and insights, we track:
- Test Activity: Questions attempted, time spent per question, and selected answers
- Reflections: Your inputs on "Why did I get this wrong?" (e.g., Silly Mistake, Conceptual Gap)
- Navigation: How you move through the test interface to analyze your exam strategy
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data solely to:
- Power the Engine: specific analysis like "Score Waterfall", "Time Efficiency", and "Strategic Evolution" graphs
- Maintain Service: Manage your plan and account access
- Improve the Platform: Anonymized performance data helps us calibrate question difficulty and improve our algorithms
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third-party advertisers.
4. Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services only for essential infrastructure:
- Sign-in: Google (if you choose Google sign-in); email sign-in codes are sent through Resend
- Payments: Razorpay (your card, UPI or bank details go to Razorpay, never to us)
- Email: Resend, for sign-in codes, receipts, refund updates and support requests (including files you attach to them)
- Hosting & Database: Vercel and MongoDB Atlas
- File storage: Cloudflare R2, for question and solution images
- Abuse protection: Upstash, which counts requests by account or IP address to rate-limit sign-in and APIs
5. Data Retention
We retain your performance data to build your long-term "Strategic Evolution" graphs.
You can delete your account yourself at any time from Settings → Profile → Danger Zone. Deletion is permanent: your attempts, answers, scores, analysis, target score, profile details and notifications are erased, and you are signed out of every device. We cannot restore an account or its data afterwards.
One exception: records of any purchase you made are retained in anonymized form, because we are legally required to keep payment and tax records. They are no longer linked to your name or email address.
